Motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, and pop-ups — covered the right way.
RV insurance in Kentucky.
Independent RV coverage from Nova Insurance Group in Nicholasville and Lexington, KY. From weekend campers to full-timers, we write the right policy.
Your RV is not just another vehicle — it’s a vehicle, a home, a travel office, and rolling personal property all at once. A standard auto policy covers almost none of that correctly. Nova Insurance Group writes Kentucky RV insurance through specialty carriers built for motorhomes, travel trailers, and full-time RVers — with the right coverage for every season, including the months your rig is parked in storage in Nicholasville, Lexington, or wherever you call base camp.
What Is RV insurance and how is it different from auto insurance?
RV insurance is a specialty policy designed around recreational vehicles. It combines elements of an auto policy (liability, collision, comprehensive, uninsured motorist) with elements of a homeowners policy (personal effects, vacation liability, full-replacement-cost coverage on the RV itself). A regular auto policy will not pay for the contents inside your motorhome, won’t cover you when the rig is parked at a campground, and won’t pay anywhere near what a Class A motorhome costs to replace.
Types of RVs we insure in Kentucky.
Motorized RVs.
Class A motorhomes (the big bus-style coaches), Class B camper vans, Class C motorhomes (the cab-over style), and Super C diesel pushers. Each class has different value tiers, weight ratings, and coverage needs.
Towable RVs.
Travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, pop-up campers, truck campers, and teardrop trailers. Towables ride on your auto policy’s liability while in motion, but the trailer itself, its contents, and on-site liability all need a dedicated RV policy.
What Kentucky RV insurance covers.
Liability and uninsured motorist.
Same protection as auto liability, but built for the size and value of an RV. We typically recommend Lexington-area RVers carry 100/300/100 minimum and pair the policy with an umbrella.
Collision and comprehensive.
Pays for damage to your RV from accidents, theft, hail, falling trees, fire, vandalism, and animal strikes. We write replacement-cost coverage on RVs less than five years old so a total loss replaces the rig with a new one.
Personal effects coverage.
Pays for the clothes, electronics, kitchenware, outdoor gear, satellite TV equipment, and personal items inside the RV. Standard limits start at $5,000 and we can increase to $100,000+ for full-timers.
Vacation liability and campsite coverage.
When your RV is parked at a campground in Cumberland Gap, Mammoth Cave, or Lake Cumberland State Resort Park and someone trips over your awning line, vacation liability pays. Auto liability does not extend to a parked rig in use as a residence.
Full-timer coverage.
If your RV is your primary residence, you need full-timer coverage. It mirrors homeowners insurance — personal liability, medical payments to others, loss of use, and higher personal-effects limits.
Emergency expense and roadside.
If your motorhome breaks down on I-75 or I-64, emergency expense pays for lodging, transportation, and food while it’s being repaired. RV roadside assistance is also dispatched with the right tow rating — a triple-A truck won’t move a 40-foot Class A.
Total loss replacement.
On newer RVs, we add total-loss replacement so a totaled rig is replaced with the same model new — not depreciated to half its purchase price.
How much does RV insurance cost in Kentucky?
Travel trailers and pop-ups typically run $250–$500 per year. Class C motorhomes average $800–$1,400. Class A motorhomes range from $1,200 to $3,500+ depending on value and use. Full-timer policies cost more because they replace homeowners insurance. Bundling the RV with auto and home through Nova typically saves Kentucky RVers 10–15% across the policies.
Who needs RV insurance in Kentucky?
Every motorized RV registered in Kentucky must carry liability insurance — same as a passenger auto. Towable trailers don’t legally require their own policy while in motion, but if you finance the trailer or use it overnight, you need an RV policy. We see Lexington and Nicholasville families add coverage right before delivery from Camping World, then never review it again — and most are underinsured by 30% or more.

Frequently asked questions.
Is RV insurance required in Kentucky?
Yes for motorized RVs. Class A, B, and C motorhomes must carry Kentucky’s minimum 25/50/25 liability insurance. Towable trailers (travel trailers, fifth wheels, pop-ups) inherit liability from the towing vehicle’s auto policy while in motion, but they need their own physical-damage and contents coverage.
Does my auto insurance cover my travel trailer in Kentucky?
Only the liability portion while you’re towing it on the road. Your auto policy does not cover damage to the trailer itself, theft of contents, fire, hail, or anything that happens once the trailer is parked at a campground. A separate travel-trailer policy fills every one of those gaps.
How much does RV insurance cost per month in Kentucky?
Most Kentucky RV owners pay $25–$120 per month, depending on the type and value of the RV, how often it’s used, and whether it’s bundled with auto or home. Travel trailers are the cheapest; Class A diesel pushers are the most expensive.
What’s full-timer RV insurance and do I need it in Kentucky?
If you live in your RV full time or even most of the year, you need full-timer coverage. It replaces the homeowners policy you no longer have — adding personal liability when you’re parked, higher personal-effects limits, and loss-of-use if the rig becomes uninhabitable. Kentucky has a growing full-timer community and we write these policies regularly.
Will RV insurance cover water damage from a storm or freeze in Kentucky?
Comprehensive coverage on an RV policy pays for water damage from sudden, accidental causes — a hailstorm tearing a roof seam, a fallen tree puncturing the rig, a freeze causing a plumbing line to burst. It does not cover slow leaks, delamination, or wear-and-tear damage. Winter storage prep matters; we walk Kentucky owners through the same lay-up principles in our Central Kentucky winter storm preparedness guide.
Do I need RV insurance during the off-season if my RV is in storage?
Yes. Most claims on Kentucky RVs happen in storage — fallen trees, vandalism, theft, rodent damage, and freeze damage. We can move the policy to a comprehensive-only storage rate during winter and reactivate full coverage in the spring, saving 30–50% during the lay-up while keeping the rig protected.
